Fortrans Self-Contained pH Control and Monitoring Systems
Fortrans Inc. designs and manufactures pH control systems specifically for the ready mix concrete industry. Fortrans has a 10 year track record of over 500 successful installations throughout the US and Canada.
Fortrans pH control systems allow concrete manufacturers to treat and discharge excess process water and or storm water with a low cost and dependable system.
Fortrans pH control systems use low cost and safe carbon dioxide gas to lower pH and total suspended solids found in process water generated at ready mix concrete plants.
The systems can utilize existing settling basins, pits tanks or ponds to ensure that water leaving the plant site meets the EPA and local standards for treatment and discharge of process water and or storm water.
All Fortrans systems use a patent pending non-fouling injector to mix carbon dioxide into water.
This mixing forms carbonic acid. The carbonic acid is the active ingredient that lowers the pH.
Carbon dioxide has been used to lower pH in alkaline solutions for many years and is a very safe technology and costs less than mineral acids to lower pH.
The 5000 series consists of 5 models depending on the type on enclosure required. See description of each model by clicking on icons on home page.
Example: The 5000SK is a demountable skid unit for clients with an existing enclosure or building.

Fortrans Self-Contained pH Control and Monitoring Systems
The Model 5000 series pH Control and Monitoring Systems offer automatic pH control and monitoring of excess process water and or storm water collected in existing settling basins, pits, tanks and other outfall containment.
The Model 5000 series pH Control and Monitoring Systems are designed for concrete manufacturers to effectively control the pH and total suspended solids of excess process water and or storm water run-off.
As the pH is being lowered to 7.5, the dissolved and suspended solids will become insoluble and precipitate out of solution. Lab tests after pH adjustment indicate that total suspended solids are between 10-18 mg/l without filtration. This enables the facility to meet the pH requirements as well as the 30 mg/l total suspended solids limit most permits demand before the water can be released.
The treated water may be recycled to batch concrete, irrigate rock or to rinse trucks and other equipment without scaling the painted surfaces.
Use of the system can reduce potable water usage.
The system will treat approximately 70,000 gallons per day utilizing the Fortrans patent pending non-fouling C02 injector diffuser. The system is powered by a stainless steel continuous duty rated submersible pump with thermal overload protection. All Fortrans systems are reliable, efficient and operate using safe carbon dioxide gas.
All Fortrans system are guaranteed to perform to the buyers satisfaction.
All standard Fortrans pH Control Systems include:
• The Fortrans exclusive non-fouling carbon dioxide diffusion and injection system (patent pending) adjusts the pH of process water and/or storm water automatically, on an as-needed basis. This carbon dioxide pH adjustment system is driven by a programmable logic controller that automatically maintains a preset pH (usually pH 7.5), for water stored in your detention basin. Target pH range is adjustable. Includes pH measurement cell, and fully automated operation. Highly reliable, and exceptionally economical to operate.
• High efficiency stainless steel submersible pump with stainless steel impeller, thermally protected continuous-duty motor, and float assembly to protect against run-dry condition. The standard system pump yields approximately 70,000 gallons per day from a typical 12 to 15 foot deep detention basin, and has capacity to pump from basins or pits 20 feet and more in depth.
• High quality swivel pump boom, 150 lb capacity, 2 feet high, with 30″ boom reach and 1000 lb manual winch.
• 2-inch pump connection and 2-inch discharge hoses (25 feet each) with cam lock quick connect fittings for quick and easy set-up.
• Electronic flow rate meter to indicate that the system is operating within a normal flow range, or to indicate that maintenance cleaning of the pump inlet, or the system hoses, is required.
• Factory installed industrial-duty surge suppressor to protect the system electronics.
• Red light fixture to warn that the system pH has exceeded the alarm set-point..
• A system enclosure that is best suited to your facilities needs.
• Feature an exclusive non fouling carbon dioxide diffusion and injection system to precisely adjust the pH of process water in existing settling basins, pits, tanks or ponds.
• The pH Control Systems will treat up to 50 gallons per minute at 20′ head
• Unique water circulation design eliminates the need for separate neutralization tank.
• 2-inch cam lock quick connect fittings on inlet and return for easy hook-up. The standard unit is equipped with 2-25′ sections of 2 inch flexible hose with cam lock quick connect fittings. Inlet and outlet fittings at the basin or lagoon are per our specifications.
• Unit is shipped completely assembled. The chemical controller is preprogrammed to maintain a pH of 7.5
• 1-year warranty on all component parts and housing
• Guaranteed Performance
• Custom systems for up to 6 million gallons per day are available
